About one20above
one20above is the passion project of Sydney photographer James Doherty. The name is literal: most of these photographs were made at one hundred and twenty metres above Australia’s coastlines, creeks and ranges — the altitude where familiar places become something else entirely.
What started as a way of seeing the country differently has become a celebration of it: the tidal abstracts of Roebuck Bay, the impossible whites of the Whitsundays, the winding roads and quiet forests in between. Each work is printed, framed and finished to archival standards, because photographs of places this good deserve to outlast trends.

James has spent nearly two decades behind a camera — first as a wedding photographer and commercial cinematographer, now (between shifts as a surgical registrar) as a landscape photographer and unapologetic gear freak. With his collaborator, creative director and location scout Natalie, landscape photography is no longer earthbound.
